SUB ASSISTANT COACH

$14 PER HOUR

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Step in to support a head coach and ride group when the regular assistant coach is unavailable. Provide on-the-bike support throughout each session you fill in for, help demonstrate mountain biking skills when needed, and help keep everyone in the group accounted for. Ensure an enjoyable experience for the kid riders!

Substitute assistant coaches are reliable, accountable team members who respond promptly to fill-in requests and follow through on the sessions they accept. If you accept a fill-in session and later cannot attend, please notify the Program Director as soon as possible so another substitute can be arranged.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Reliable and responsive to the Program Director.
• Responds promptly to fill-in requests, whether accepting or declining.
• Flexible availability throughout the June–August season.
• Good history with being on time.
• Strong mountain biking abilities.
• Experience with teaching/instruction.
• Comfortable stepping into an unfamiliar ride group for a single session.
• Good verbal communication skills.
• Good emailing and SMS (texting) skills.
• Ability to handle stressful/difficult situations
• No previous leadership experience necessary.
• General knowledge of bike maintenance.
  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Respond promptly to fill-in requests from the Program Director and confirm availability as soon as possible.

Before the session, check in briefly with the head coach to learn the group's skill level, recent focus areas, and any rider-specific notes.

Help coach a group of up to 12 kids, for up to 3 hours, working alongside a team of 2-3 other coaches.

Be 15-20 minutes early to every ride drop-off to allow parents to drop off their kids early.

Help the head coach provide instruction when demonstrating mountain biking skills and technique.

Create a safe and fun environment for riders.

Notify the head coach immediately of any first aid/emergency situations and help the group to remain calm.

Account for every rider in the ride group at the beginning, middle, and end of each ride.
