SUBSTITUTE HEAD COACH
POSITION
AGES 16+
SUB HEAD COACH
$22 PER HOUR
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Step in as the lead coach for a ride group when the regular head coach is unavailable. Substitute head coaches are on-call team members who respond quickly to fill-in requests from the Program Director, pick up the group where the regular coach left off, and deliver a safe, enjoyable ride that keeps the group's momentum going.
Substitutes are not locked into a recurring schedule — instead, reliability means responding promptly to fill-in requests (even when the answer is "no, I can't make this one") and following through on the sessions you do accept. Once you confirm a session, the expectations are the same as any head coach: be early, be prepared, and lead the group well.
QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Reliable and responsive to the Program Director (Chandler Lake) -
Good history with being on time - Strong mountain biking abilities
- Experience with teaching/instruction
- Good verbal communication skills
- Good emailing and SMS (texting) skills
- Ability to handle stressful/difficult situations
- Positive leadership experience
- General knowledge of bike maintenance
- BLS (CPR & First Aid) or BikeMed Certification
RESPONSIBILITIES
Before the session, check in briefly with the regular head coach (or Program Director) to learn the group's skill level, recent focus areas, and any rider-specific notes.
Lead-coach a ride group of up to 12 kids for up to 3 hours, working alongside a team of 2-3 other coaches.
Be 15-20 minutes early to every ride drop-off to allow parents to drop off their kids early.
Provide clear instruction when demonstrating mountain biking skills and technique.
Create a safe and fun environment for riders.
Handle all first aid/emergency situations and communicate with the emergency contacts for the injured/distressed rider.
Account for every rider in the ride group at the beginning, middle, and end of each ride.
Communicate with assistant coaches via SMS or email.
After the session, send a brief recap to the regular head coach and Program Director covering what was ridden, skills practiced, and anything notable about the group or individual riders.
